Being Jewish In Victorian Fiction

This short course will be run by Sherry Ashworth, a PhD student at the Centre for Jewish Studies and will serve as an introduction to three late Victorian novels about Jews. No need to have read the novels, but extracts will be provided to whet your appetite! There will be discussion too.  The books are George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda on 24 Oct , Reuben Sachs by Amy Levy on 31 Oct and Children of the Ghetto by Israel Zangwill on 14 Nov. All sessions take place from 6.00 – 7.30pm in the Lower Ground Floor activity room at the Manchester Central Library. Please register for each session individually through Eventbrite. There is no charge for participants but places are limited. Further information is available from the Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Manchester.
