160 years of Progressive Judaism in the Heart of Manchester

We pride ourselves in being steeped in the tradition of Reform Judaism, being one of the oldest Reform Synagogues in the United Kingdom, but with a vibrant community that moves with the times. Our focus is on Progressive, Living Judaism. Our Rabbis are the most forward thinkers and educators, able to engage with people of all ages. We have a passionate and vibrant Executive and Council, which prioritises Jewish Education, Family and Seniors Events, fully experiencing and celebrating Shabbat, Jewish Festivals and Personal life events. JR’s Listening Project – Shema Night

We are over halfway through our listening project, which started in January, and ends on Sunday May 19 with our Shema Night at Jackson’s Row when we will hear back from all of the meetings.

The Listening Project is a series of house meetings across the community – trying to Identify common interests; key issues and priorities about what Jackson’s Row means to us all and what it can be as we move forward.

We are one of the first synagogues in the UK to hold a listening project and the results have been astounding. We have had around 70 people take part in eight house meetings so far.  Many people who attended a house meeting felt unsure, even apprehensive, as they did not know what to expect.  But overwhelmingly, they have been moved through hearing other member’s stories, surprised at the diversity of our community, and enjoyed meeting new people.

Before the finale of the listening project we have five more house meetings. These are focused conversations, usually with around 8-10 people about community.  You won’t be put on the spot or be expected to do anything as a result.  It really is just a chance for us to talk together about what we care about.

If you have been interested but not able to attend now is your chance! Please RSVP to Mandy in the office (admin@jacksonsrow.org) if you can make one of the following meetings from 7:30pm-9pm or email Rabbi Robyn if you have any questions (rabbirobyn@jacksonsrow.org):

  1. Tuesday 16thApril, SK4
  2. Wednesday 24thApril, Central Manchester
  3. Thursday 2ndMay, North Manchester
  4. Thursday 9thMay, South Manchester (M19)

The listening project finale, Shema Night, is on 19th May from 4-6pm at Jackson’s Row.  Please put this date in your diary – this will be a unique afternoon in the shul’s history and you will not want to miss it!  Come and hear what we all have to say, what Jackson’s Row means to us and help look towards the future – over pizza!
